Catalan films Modelo 77 and Alcarràs received between 16 and 11 nominations for the 2023 Goya Awards. They are among the favorites to win at next year’s 37th edition of the Goya Awards.
The nominations were announced by actresses Nora Navas and Blanca Portillo in the middle of an event organized by the Film Academy and the Goyas. An edition with a strong generational replacement is expected.
In fact, Sorogoyen’s As Bestas leads the field with 17 nominations. It is followed by Modelo 77 with one nomination less and next is Alcarràs by Carla Simón with 11 nominations.
The Goya Awards 2023 and Best Film
However, the Catalan film Alcarràs is the only one competing in the Best Film category. Carla Simón and Alberto Rodríguez will also compete in the Best Director category.
The 2023 Goya Awards Ceremony will take place on February 11, 2023 at the Palacio de Congresos y Exposiciones FIBES in Seville.
In second place of favoritism is the film La Modelo 77, which competes in 16 categories: Best Film, Best Direction, Best Original Screenplay, among others.
It is also worth noting that the film’s two leading actors, Javier Gutiérrez and Miguel Herrán, are competing in the Best Leading Actor category.
And in third place is the film “Alcarràs” by the Catalan Carla Simón, which accumulates 11 nominations in the main categories of: Best Film, Best Director, Best New Actress. It also stands out in other technical categories such as Best Editing, Best Cinematography and Best Art Direction, among others. However, the Catalan presence does not only stand out in the major Goya awards.
In fact, Carla has also been nominated for Best Actress in a Leading Role for her role in Cinco Lobitos.
Coixet will also be present with her nomination for the short film El sostre groc. And screenwriter Oriol Paulo will compete for the award for best adapted screenplay called Los renglones torcidos de Dios (God’s crooked lines).
The Awards will include five nominations in each category.
In 2023 Seville will host the 37th edition of the Goya Awards, as announced this week Fernando Méndez-Leite, president of the Film Academy, together with Antonio Muñoz, mayor of the Andalusian capital.
Mendéz-Leite from the Palacio de la Motilla in the capital highlighted the “strength of the film industry in Andalusia and especially in Seville,” where the Goya gala had already been held in 2019. In addition, he said that:
“We are expecting a spectacular year of Spanish cinema, which will culminate with the celebration of the Goya Awards, which we hope will be the best in history”.
For his part, Antonio Muñoz, Mayor of Seville, thanked the Film Academy for once again placing its trust in the city to host the gala.
