With more than 1,400 m2 of open space, Barcelona opens one of the largest macro-areas for dogs in the Catalan capital. It is located in the Àrea d’Esbarjo de Gossos (AEG) of the Parc de l’Estació del Nord, one of the largest in the Eixample district and also in the city.
The advantage is that in the North Station Park, the playground is so large that the animals can run free and unleashed.
The start-up of the area is accompanied by an information and awareness campaign being carried out by the Barcelona City Council to remind users of the attitude and rules that should be taken into account when using the park.
Now, the furry ones will be able to run around this recreation area without being tied up, which is a great achievement, since the area is exclusively for the enjoyment of canines.
The objective is for the area to ensure a better coexistence between all park users and to be able to leave behind past conflicts and differences between neighbors and dog owners.
The macro areas for dogs in Barcelona
The work to make this project a reality began a little over a year ago. And it is a new space that will allow dogs to enjoy a large recreation area to run and play. The area has a drinking water trough, litter garbage cans and benches, as well as curvilinear landscaped slopes.
In the area there will also be a team of information agents who will accompany users for a few weeks during the park’s start-up phase.
The team will be made up of personnel from the Conflict Management Service, SGC, in the public space, civic and coexistence agents, as well as informants hired by the Eixample district. The Guardia Urbana will also actively collaborate in the informative tasks.
Another novelty in the park is that the existing lighting has been replaced, as well as the concrete wall of the Sardenya-Almogàvers chamfer with a metal fence. This improved visibility between the park and the street and also opened a new entrance to the park. The works cost one million euros.
The proposal for a dog beach
Just as this initiative was born, the neighbors of Badalona have already been collecting signatures for several years with which they seek to make a dog beach a reality.
Just as this park is now, pet owners continue to fight for adequate space to take their pets out to enjoy the beach.
The most likely place to become a dog beach would seem to be a part of the Marina beach (Mora neighborhood).
