This year, the city of Barcelona and its metropolitan area host another edition of the captivating cycle “Petites històries, grans dones”. Exploring lives through museums

The event is designed for the whole family and will take place on weekends from February 28 through March 22. Each presentation focuses on a different woman, linked in some way to the host museum. Each institution has selected a female figure to represent its cultural heritage, making each visit a unique experience that defies traditional static exhibitions.

The exciting opening of doors: Barcelona’s museums await everyone, especially the elderly.

Women protagonists on stage

Míriam Artacho: She opens the cycle on February 28 at the Maritime Museum of Barcelona. Míriam is the proud skipper of the Mini One, a twelve-meter boat with which she not only sails the seas but also participates in ecological initiatives such as the “Upcycling the oceans” program. Her story is a testament to how commitment to the sea can be intertwined with environmental protection.

Lídia Freixas: On March 1, the Museum of Natural Sciences of Barcelona welcomes Lídia. This researcher from the Museum of Natural Sciences of Granollers has dedicated her career to the study of small mammals and shares her discoveries through platforms such as the television program “Natura Sàvia”.

Sophie Aguilera: On March 7, the Museums of Esplugues will host the renowned ceramist Sophie Aguilera. With her innovative and creative pieces, Sophie has excelled in the field of artistic ceramics, also collaborating with designers and urban artists to expand her art beyond traditional boundaries.

Marta Lloret Blackburn: On March 14, at the Museum of History of Catalonia, we will meet Marta, who is passionate about the preservation of rural heritage. As director of the Mas i Terra Foundation, she seeks to raise awareness of the importance of Catalan farmhouses through the Masiaire project.

Paula Blasi: On March 21, the Olympic and Sports Museum presents Paula Blasi. This young cycling star, with awards such as “Revelation 2024” has not only shone on the European circuits but also inspires other young people to pursue their sporting dreams.

Cleopatra: Closing the cycle, on March 22, the Museum of Archaeology of Catalonia tells the story of the Egyptian queen Cleopatra. Not only was she a political strategist, but she also left a legacy of intelligence and power that has stood the test of time.

A unique opportunity to learn as a family

The cycle “Petites històries, grans dones” not only entertains and educates, but also offers the opportunity to connect with history from a perspective that usually goes unnoticed in books. The activity is completely free, although due to the limited capacity, it is recommended to consult the museums’ websites in advance to make a reservation.

Duration of each activity: Approximately one hour, an ideal time to immerse oneself in history, reflect on it and enjoy an educational moment with the youngest members of the family.

This series is a reminder that the most impactful stories, the ones that challenge norms and bring change, are often the least told. So whether you’re looking for a family weekend activity or want to learn more about these inspiring women, this is an opportunity not to be missed. Barcelona celebrates the transformative power of women through its museums, and this is your invitation to be part of it.
