The public electric car charging network in Barcelona is experiencing remarkable growth, further consolidating its position as a leader in the deployment of electromobility in southern Europe.
During the first six months of the year, a record number of more than 68,000 recharges were recorded, representing a 40% increase compared to the same period last year.

This growth is also reflected in the number of daily users, which has reached almost 18,000, an increase of 32.5% over the previous year.
In addition, electricity supply has increased significantly, reaching 777,324 kWh, 62% more than in the first half of 2022.
Growing public electric car charging network
Barcelona has the largest charging network in Spain, with more than 700 charging points. At the European level, the city ranks second in terms of charging points per square kilometer, preceded only by Stockholm.
In addition, Barcelona ranks fourth in terms of the number of points per inhabitant, preceded by Stockholm, Gothenburg and Oslo.
Expansion of the charging network will continue through 2023, with plans to reach 1,000 operational charging points throughout the city.
Municipal parking lots to have new electric car charging points
This will include the location of nearly 300 new points in B:SM parking lots, with the aim of ensuring an equitable spread across all city neighborhoods and encouraging planned off-peak recharging.
This increase in demand and the expansion of the network demonstrate that the transition to electric vehicles is gaining momentum in Barcelona.
In fact, the municipal authorities are committed to facilitating this transition by investing 12 million euros in expanding the recharging infrastructure.
These efforts not only promote sustainable mobility, but also contribute to minimizing the occupation of public space and offer a more user-friendly experience for electric vehicle users.
Barcelona leads electromobility
The automotive industry and the public are increasingly focused on electric mobility as an answer to environmental concerns and the need to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
Electric vehicles represent a sustainable and environmentally friendly option, which has led to a remarkable growth in their demand and acceptance.

The transition to electric cars is crucial in global efforts to address climate change and improve air quality in cities. By eliminating direct exhaust emissions, electric cars contribute significantly to the reduction of air pollution and the negative impact associated with fossil fuels.
In addition, their energy efficiency, performance and favorable operating costs have attracted the attention of consumers.
