This week work began on the improvement of the Espai 30, located next to the Nau Ivanow in the La Sagrera neighborhood. With an investment of 2.4 million euros, this renovation and expansion project will be carried out over the next twelve months and aims to consolidate Espai 30 as a key associative and cultural space in the district of Sant Andreu.
A space accessible to all
The project will improve accessibility, bringing the building into line with current regulations to ensure that the space can be used by all citizens, regardless of their physical condition. As pointed out by the councilor of the Sant Andreu district, Marta Villanueva, this intervention has a triple purpose: “to make the facility accessible to all, to guarantee a space for neighborhood organizations, and to preserve the historical memory of the area”.
Modernization without losing history
Espai 30 is made up of three attached industrial buildings, part of the Nau Ivanow complex, a vestige of La Sagrera’s industrial past. These warehouses, known as Guillot, Abaco and Ion, were built at the beginning of the 20th century and have housed various industries until their conversion into a cultural space. The renovation will maintain the historical value of these buildings, modernizing them for their current use without losing the connection with the past.
Improvements in structure and sustainability
The project also contemplates the replacement of all the roofs of the complex, due to the presence of asbestos, and to improve its energy efficiency. These new roofs will allow natural light to enter the upper spaces, improving the environmental quality inside the warehouses. In addition, a large multi-purpose room will be created inside, new accesses will be installed and improvements will be made to the permeability of the facades. The intermediate platforms will be rebuilt in the Ion and Guillot warehouses, providing fluid access to the upper floor spaces, which will contribute to improving the functionality of the entire complex.
A space for the neighborhood
The Espai 30 is currently managed by cultural and social organizations in the neighborhood, and for the duration of the works, these organizations will move to other spaces in the neighborhood. The refurbishment will ensure that these entities can continue to carry out their work in a renovated environment that is better adapted to their needs. In addition to the structural renovation, the Espai 30 will continue to be a point of reference in the associative and cultural life of La Sagrera, enriching the range of activities available to residents and preserving a space that bears witness to the district’ s industrial past.
