The streets of Barcelona are once again dressed up to celebrate the arrival of the Sants Festival 2023 to the city.
After a period marked by uncertainty and restrictions due to the pandemic, the residents of Sants are preparing to celebrate their neighborhood pride in an edition that promises to be unforgettable.
Along with the iconic celebration of Gràcia, the Fiestas de Sants are an annual event that fills the city with joy and color during the month of August.
Unlike its counterpart in Gràcia, the Fiestas de Sants often remain relatively removed from the massive influx of tourists that flood Barcelona in the summer months. However, this distinction by no means means means that these festivities lack audience or enthusiasm.
On the contrary, thousands of residents of Barcelona and Catalonia as a whole gather in this neighborhood during these dates to enjoy a varied offer of concerts and activities.
Vibrant celebrations at Sants Festival 2023: culture and tradition
The calendar of the Fiestas de Sants 2023 reserves a special space for the coincidence of the celebrations with the Fiestas de Gràcia during the first three days.
This closeness in the calendar and the shared tradition of street and square decorating contests instill an exciting friendly rivalry between these two traditional Barcelona neighborhoods, adding a competitive dimension to the festive spirit.
This year, the procession of events will be spread over nine days, kicking off the Fiestas de Sants on Saturday, August 19, 2023 at 11 am with the exciting “walk through the history of Sants”.
However, the festivities will not stop there, as from 7:00 p.m. the popular culture performances will begin, including the always impressive presence of the imposing “gegants” and the intrepid “castellers”.
A moment awaited by all is the solemn opening speech, which this year will be given by the Fortuny brothers of the Companyia Elèctrica Dharma and will mark the official start of the concerts and musical performances.
