The Fira de Consum Responsable celebrates its tenth edition in Plaza CatalunyaA consolidated space for responsible consumption

The Fira occupies the outer crown of Plaza Catalunya, a location that symbolizes its consolidation in the heart of the city. This event not only seeks to encourage responsible consumption during the Christmas holidays, but also to inspire sustainable habits throughout the year.

Drought in Catalonia: restrictions on consumption and emergency measures

Raquel Gil, Councilor for Economic Promotion, Commerce, Catering and Markets, stresses that “the Fira shows that there are viable and accessible alternatives to consume differently, supporting local commerce and promoting a positive impact on the neighborhoods of the city”. With opening hours from 11:00 to 20:30 hours, except on special dates such as Christmas and San Esteban, on December 19 and 20 the opening will be at 16:00 hours, while the 24th will close at 18:00 hours.

Proposals for all tastes

The fair offers a wide range of products including handicrafts, clothing, textile accessories, books, toys, sustainable food and small gift items. These products stand out not only for their quality, but also for their production under ethical criteria that respect people and the environment.

Three thematic areas

The structure of the Fira is divided into three main areas:

  1. Àgora del Consum Responsable: An interactive space that includes workshops, a free play corner, reading and consultation on responsible consumption. It also has a collective mural and an information tent.
  2. Booth area: 32 booths dedicated to the purchase of local and sustainable products, offering unique and ethical alternatives for Christmas gifts.
  3. Sustainable food tents: Three initiatives that promote healthy and responsible food choices.

Sowing the seeds of change

To celebrate its tenth edition, the Fira will present participants with an envelope of seeds, easily cultivated, as a metaphor for the seeds of change that this event has sown throughout its history. The seeds, which include consumable or decorative varieties, reinforce the message of cultivating new, more sustainable and conscious forms of consumption.

Reflecting on consumption

Under the question “How do we consume?”, the Fira will also be a space for raising awareness. Materials developed by the Xarxa d’Economia Solidària will be available around the Responsible Consumption Sphere, inviting attendees to reflect on their consumption habits and available alternatives.

Impact on the city

The Fira de Consum Responsable not only promotes an alternative consumption model, but also reinforces Barcelona’s commitment as a pioneering city in sustainability and solidarity economy. By consolidating itself as an annual event, this space also encourages support for neighborhood commerce and social awareness.

A model to follow

In its tenth edition, the Fira reaffirms itself as an essential event for those seeking sustainable, ethical and quality alternatives. Plaza Catalunya becomes, once again, the epicenter of change towards responsible consumption, demonstrating that small gestures can generate a big impact.
