A Journey of Passion and Dedication to tango in Barcelona.

Francesca Vaccari, Italian by birth but a citizen of the world, opens the doors of her tango school in Barcelona, a place where multiple cultures converge and the art of tango is intensely lived.

Our guest arrived in Barcelona thirteen years ago and found a welcoming and vibrant city. The Catalan city offered her the stability and opportunities she was looking for. Today, she is an active part of the Italian and Argentine communities, feeling at home in a city that values cultural diversity.

Since she was a child, she felt a special attraction for tango, influenced by her musician brother. Although she began her training in classical dance, tango crossed her path later, in Rome, where she had the opportunity to learn from great Argentine masters.

The Art of Dancing: A Universal Expression

Dancing is an artistic manifestation that transcends borders and cultures. We see it at parties, weddings, birthdays and funerals. Every dance has its essence, and tango stands out as a dance where movement precedes thought. This Argentinean genre, where a couple links in a two-four time signature, creates a world suspended in time.

Francesca stresses the importance of feeling over thinking in tango. For her, the “follower” (expression used in tango) must be driven by emotions, while the “leader” needs a balance between feeling and analyzing. This role dynamic reflects a deep internal communication and a unique connection between the dancers.

The Magic of Tango: A Dance that Reflects the Soul

Tango is not only dance, it is also music. Francesca mentions “Alma de Bohemio” as one of her favorite tangos, whose lyrics talk about living dreams. For her, tango is a way of expressing the deepest part of the self, a truth that emerges in every movement.

Starting to teach tango was a challenge for Francesca. Despite receiving professional proposals before she felt ready, her respect for the art led her to wait for the right moment. Finally, she founded her own school in Barcelona, a place that today is a reference in the tango community.

Teaching Tango: More than Technique, an Emotional Therapy

Teaching tango goes beyond transmitting steps and techniques. Francesca sees her classes as group therapy where students confront their fears and limitations. Tango reveals aspects of the personality, from shyness to excessive control, and offers an opportunity for personal growth.

Teaching tango also involves adapting to individual and collective needs, creating a supportive and understanding environment. Francesca stresses that tango is for whatever everyone needs in life, and always offers a valuable lesson.

Barcelona: An Inspiring and Accompanying City

For Francesca, Barcelona is a place where nature and architecture blend in perfect harmony. She enjoys strolling through the Turo Park and the Parque de la Ciudadela, where outdoor milongas are also organized. The modernist streets of Enrique Granados and Paseo de Gracia are her favorite routes to admire the beauty of the city.

Francesca’s Future in Barcelona

Francesca remains open to new opportunities, although for now she feels fully realized in Barcelona. Her tango school “El puntazo, tango studio” (c/Casanova nº 3) is a testament to her dedication and love for the dance, and continues to inspire many through her teaching.
