In a city where dogs are part of everyday life and coexistence between these animals and neighbors can be a challenge, the Barcelona City Council promotes free dog education workshops in different parts of the city.
The objective is to take measures to improve the relationship between pets and the community.
With more than 174,000 dogs registered in the city, approximately one dog for every ten people, it is essential to promote responsible dog education to ensure harmonious coexistence.

The free dog education workshops in different parts of the city seek to train dog owners and promote a respectful and positive coexistence.
The second edition of this initiative launched by the Barcelona City Council, provides citizens with the necessary tools to understand and educate their pets, while promoting animal welfare and strengthening the bonds between dogs and owners.
The first session is scheduled for September 13, 2023 at the North Station Park in the Eixample district.
To ensure the effectiveness of the workshops, participation will be limited to a maximum of 25 people per group, allowing for personalized attention and an environment conducive to learning.

Free canine education workshops to improve the coexistence of dogs
The workshops will be led by two professionals with experience in canine education, as well as by the students of the Canine Educator course of the specialized center CUMBRE.
This collaboration will provide comprehensive training that encompasses both theory and practice, giving participants the necessary skills to understand and manage their pets effectively.
In addition, they will focus on identifying the specific needs of each dog, which will contribute to improving the relationship between owners and their furry friends.
One of the central objectives of this initiative is to ensure that each district of Barcelona has its own free canine education workshop. This will promote a culture of respectful coexistence between pets and neighbors.
With workshops scheduled in different areas of the city, such as the Hiroshima gardens, the Pegaso park and the Plaza de las Heroínas de Girona, the aim is to provide access to canine education to a wide public and create a network of support throughout the city.

During the workshops, specific behaviors will be addressed and practical techniques for training and socializing dogs will be provided. Participants will learn to control their pets from a distance, encourage obedience and foster effective communication.
These skills are fundamental to promote a safe and respectful environment in public spaces, which will ultimately contribute to a better coexistence between dogs and citizens.
